It’s fair to say that Skyrim’s follower system works much better than its rather poor Oblivion counterpart. 20 Best Follower Mods For Skyrim All Free. However, as TES players, we all know that there is always something to complain about. Whether there are not enough followers or certain teammates are not good enough, there will always be room for improvement. Don’t worry, there is a solution: tweak your game as much as possible.
I’ve compiled my picks for the best fan mods to add to Skyrim for you to enjoy downloading. Let’s discover new followers that you can add to the game, not to mention some great mods that also serve to improve the experience with your followers. Adding new people to follow you is always great. But let’s get them to stop acting like idiots, that’s even better!
20 Aurora and Twilight Followers
I think one of the most essential things a follower mod should have is a flawless voiceover. I can’t tell you this is perfect, but both fans have a full voice and are very well crafted. Aurora and Twilight are fully customizable, which means that you can select their body types and even choose whether you’d like them to be werewolves or vampires.
So is there, even more, you ask?
Yes, you can both get married!
19 Eryniel Elf Reborn
Eryniel is an elf who has become one with nature. He handles exceptionally well in combat, and he does so by summoning the strength of all the spirits of nature to fight by his side. This unique mod adds a total of 35 new Spriggan spells, all of which are part of Eryniel’s magical arsenal. The character comes with various traits, a warrior skill set, and even the ability to call her your wife. Pleasant!
18 Tame the Beasts of Skyrim
Have you ever wanted to take control of the creatures of Skyrim? I wouldn’t blame you if you did, some of the animals in the game would work fantastically as followers. Or even some modified beasts while you’re at it. Tame the Beasts of Skyrim lets you do just that! Approach any creature in the game and speak the ancient language of the elves, allowing you to tame it with words. Fight alongside any of your animal brothers.
17 Danariel Stormbow
This mod is basically a remastered version of the 20th mod on my list above. But instead of Twilight and Aurora, add one of the best archer partners I’ve seen in Skyrim. It’s worth checking out if you like the look, although it’s certainly not the best (or worst) follower mod you can get.
16 Arvak – Legendary Edition
Tired of the basic horses that come with the game? If the answer is yes, then you may have the solution to your problems. Arvak is a horse/companion that appears to have been pulled straight out of Oblivion and thrown at your door. Powerful, powerful, and slick looking with its purple flames. What more could you ask of a follower or partner? Maybe not to poop so much, but hey, what can you do?
15 Followers Can Relax
In terms of mods that enhance the fan experience, this must be one of my favorites. Your followers will no longer stick with you through thick and thin if you just want to do other things without them. Tidy them up and have them roam the woods looking for raw materials, or just tell them to sit down and stay out of the way. It is up to you to decide what to do. And for some reason, they just listen, every damn time.
14 Poet Follower
This relatively small follower has the ability to act like an utterly sadistic barbarian and some of the highest quality blunt skills I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of one of those old Final Fantasy characters.
The inspiration to create it could have come from that tradition, but it also fits very well in Skyrim.
13 Better Stealth AI for Followers
One thing we all agree on is the fact that fans are extremely idiotic when it comes to being stealthy.
If you’ve ever tried to sneak past an enemy with a follower behind you, they’ve likely rushed into action and ruined all the fun.
This mod allows your followers to stop acting like retards and focus on the act of stealth as long as you stick with it too.
If you want a helpful follower to spice up your adventures, then Recorder might be the one for you.
This woman seems to have it all.
And that’s a huge compliment when you say it to someone in the TES world.
The recorder is a female brewmaster as well as a fully voiced character who has some of the best custom lines of dialogue I’ve ever heard.
Once again, I’m glad I can complement the voice lines of a modified character; I have seen some outright abominations in my days when downloading mods for this game. Some people really should steer clear of voice acting … but not who did Recorder’s voice.
11 Tania The Hermit
Tania is an elf who now wanders, lost, through the lands of Skyrim.
According to the stories, there used to be a small elf kingdom that was destroyed by an unknown force; she was the only survivor of the attack.
Now you can have her join your adventures while helping her solve her own questions.
What happened to their land?
Who was responsible for ending it?
Tania is a very interesting fan who may lack a bit of combat experience, but hey, that’s nothing a few hours of training can’t fix.
10 Spouses Can Live Everywhere
One of the things that many people hate is how limited the spouses seem to be.
Whether you want them to live with you or stay elsewhere, customizing your spouse’s behavior doesn’t seem like one of the main features that Vanilla Skyrim offers.
This mod lets you choose where you want your spouses to live, and this doesn’t even include custom locations or interior areas.
In fact, you can make your spouse live on the streets if that’s what your heart wants!
Wherever you decide to set your preferred location, they will perform as they do in any vanilla home.
That also includes the characteristics of your provider.
9 Cerwiden – Smart Healer
A magician with a personalized voice? Sign me up!
This amazing follower is one of the most talented wizards that you can download for the game.
She can help you during your missions with lots of help.
However, the best thing about Cerwiden is not her prowess as a magician.
His voice acting is flawless. And his interactions with other followers and with you, based on environmental changes, are just too good.
If you want a character that feels more than an NPC, you’ll want to check out Cerwiden.
Hoth is not just the name of the planet where the Rebel Alliance was based.
It’s also the name of one of the coolest fan mods you can download for Skyrim. This is the first guy on my list, a place that he has earned simply by looking like a badass and offering a skill set that not many others can match.
This man is as brutal as he seems.
You will crush the skulls of your enemies with superhuman strength, or just shoot them from afar with your world-class aim.
If you’re looking for a follower who’s not just another pretty face, give Hoth a try. You will not regret having it around.
7 Familiar Faces
Alright, this mod is by far the most original on this list.
The whole concept of the mod is something that all Skyrim players will love to see.
Familiar Faces allows you to add your other Dragonborns to the game world.
That’s right – your other save files can now be imported into your game, and all of your other characters will now appear in a special area of the world.
Build a sanctuary for your other-selves. Have them follow you through Skyrim as trusted companions to continue your two adventures together.
Or even fight them to see who is the most powerful Dragonborn.
6 Arissa – The Wandering Rogue
Arissa has to be one of the best-voiced characters I’ve ever downloaded for Skyrim.
And trust me when I tell you that I downloaded quite a few.
She is a rogue, which makes her a fantastic archer and one of the best pickpockets in the area.
Like many other character mods on this list, Arissa is completely custom-made from scratch.
She has a unique appearance that makes her different from many of the other characters in the game. Basically, a really cool follower to keep.
5 Extensible Follower Framework
If you liked the “Fans Can Relax” mod, then you are going to fall in love with EFF. This broadens the way followers work and takes the experience to a completely different plane of existence. With EFF, you will be able to tell your followers to stay idle in a certain area, have them ride their horses for specific items, dual-wielded weapons, or you can even have them change their status to Essential.
This mod allows you to convert followers into whatever you want them to be.
When it comes to customization for your companions, this is the best mod I have come across.
4 Vilja in Skyrim
Vilja is a cool bard who looks a bit like Daenerys Targaryen but has her completely opposite personality.
This character comes with a full voiceover that is always nice.
And it will accept any task you give it, also a nice addition.
Their backstory is just as cool as they are, enriching the experience while staying quite friendly with tradition.
If all goes well between you and her, you might even be able to marry her.
She even has a little story progression system that makes her an even more attractive companion to keep.
Iñigo, who I’m pretty sure should be called Iñigo but the creator was missing the “ñ” on his keyboard, is a follower worth investigating.
He is a legendary warrior with over a thousand lines of dialogue to provide a completely revitalized in-game follower experience.
The best thing about this guy is the level of depth the mod creator gave it.
The guy may run out of arrows and you’ll have to resupply him. And it can even level up alongside you to make everything feel even more realistic, but not OP.
Overall, it’s a great addition to your battles and worth downloading to see what you think.
I’m pretty sure that one of the reasons this character is so popular in the community is the inherent thirst of many players. But trust me, there is so much more to Sofia than her looks.
This funny follower is as brave as he comes, but also as brave as the best.
She has the voice of a professional voice actor and gives you an experience that no other fan of the game is capable of giving you.
Smart, handsome, and with a killer eye to hunt prey, be it a beast or a human. Sofia is a true MVP.
1 UFO: Ultimate Following Overhaul
We have finally reached the follower review to end all follower reviews. If you thought the EFF mod was good, get ready to meet the best of the bunch.
This includes a full list of features ranging from improving the basic follower system to adding new things that didn’t come with Vanilla Skyrim. The list is almost endless. Trust me, you’ll want to check it out for yourself. Explore the mods page to learn more, but this is something you will need to experiment to understand.
